Caring for fine jewelry

Jewelry care depends on the gemstone, metal and setting. As a general rule, avoid pools, hot tubs, salt water, household chemicals and direct contact with perfumes, lotions and cleaning products.

Store pieces separately so gemstones and metal surfaces do not scratch one another. After wear, wipe jewelry gently with a clean, soft cloth.

Gemstones need different care

Not every gemstone should be cleaned the same way. Diamond and sapphire are comparatively durable, while emerald, pearl and coral require gentler handling and can be sensitive to chemicals, heat or aggressive cleaning methods. Avoid ultrasonic or steam cleaning unless a qualified jeweler has confirmed that it is appropriate for the specific stone and treatment.

Vedic jewelry and frequent wear

Some Jyotish traditions recommend frequent or continuous wear of a chart-recommended gemstone. That does not remove the practical care requirements of the gemstone. If your piece is intended for regular wear, the setting and care routine should reflect the physical properties of the stone.

Professional checks

We recommend periodic professional inspections for fine jewelry, especially rings and frequently worn pieces. A jeweler can check prongs, settings, clasps and signs of wear before a small issue becomes a larger repair.
